Ok, my idea:

how are you celebrating Christmas?

We, my mum and I, celebrate it like in Poland. We start with sharing a "consecrated wafer" (i thing that's the term for Oblate??) at 7pm , then we have a BIG meal (no meat but fish) and normaly we even set the table for an "unexpected visitor"! After that we get presents.

well...I celebrate christmas like a normal family in germany I think!
We celebrate with the whole family..my parents, my sister with her husband, my brother and I!
At first, we go to the church (not every member of our family go..), then we eat (mostly raclette) and after eating, we get the presents and have much fun at the rest of the night!

This year I go to church first and look after a group of children so that their parents can prepare christmas. Then I go to church again (a church service this time). After that My parents, my sister, my uncle and me go home, eat (meat) and get our presents. After that, I go to church again
greets, Meike

Well, we celebrate Christmas in the usual manner I guess. Just that we leave out the church-going-stuff...my family is not very religious (not at all actually, I only went to church once on Christmas).
So we have dinner at about 6pm (always the same: Soljanka - whatever this is called in English - with baguette and potato salad) and afterwards everyone (well, usually just me and my parents) goes into the living room and there are the presents, everyone grabs their ones and we unpack them..that's about it actually.
So not really impressing or anything!

Hey Everybody!

In my family christmas is a bit different. Well not because of our "traditions" but because of our order of events. Its my oncle´s birthday on the 24th of December - so we have got two celebrations on one day! Normaly we meet around noon at my oncle´s house, have Lunch or something -and tea of course - and in the evening we drive back home to have Christmas, like everyone else! My Mom once told me, that it was a difficult thing with my oncle´s bday and christmas on one day, when they were children. Morning until evening of the 24th was just his birthday and in the later evening christmas got started! Well, I can understand him... I think everyone wants to have "his or her day", right?! Well... lets get back to the celebration of christmas ... I normally spend christmas only with my parents, but this year my grandma will stay with us!
First of all I have to go upstairs and wait until my Mum rings a little bell downstairs ( Well, I told her a few times not to do this anymore, because I got older, but she is emphatic about that... ) and then I can come back to the living room and everyone gets their presents! Afterwards we have dinner. Our traditional dinner is "salmon in pastry" (Lachs in Blätterteig).

we celebrate christmas just as nadine does.
we have dinner at 6 p.m. and in the last years only a few snacks and after that we´ll get our presents.
we don´t go to church either as my parents aren´t that religious and my sister and me had no baptism and so we don´t have a close connection to religion.
sometimes we also watch the movies on television in the evening and afternoon if there´s something interesting.

Ok, I'm celebrating christmas in this order.

In the morning I'm driving to the grave of my grandmother. After visiting grandma my mother is going to give some biscuits for my uncle. I'll wait in the car because I don't want to visit him in hospital.

Then we'll drive home. In the evening we are going to have some salad. Later on we'll sit together. I don't know what we'll do then....

P.S.: I really hope that my uncle isn't visiting us!

Regards
Chris

hmmm i think our way celebrating xmas ist always different... from 5 p. m. on we try to get "rid off" the last lost soules, who does not want to leave our restaurant... then we start tidying up and getting dressed for the feast and preparing the meals. i mainly help my mum in the kitchen... mainly we have geese and turkey joints and of course "schlesische Weißwurst" cooked and fried, that's a traditional meal from my grandparents...

normally my brother, my sister, my brother-in-law, my nephew joint at about 7 p.m. and my sister helps with the last preparations... afterwards we eat all together and the kevin is allowed to open his prestens... mainly just my nephew gets prestens as well as my parents.... the rest of the evening we spend playing games and cards like rummy, having a chat, cause such moments are rare in our family... cause the restaurant needs most of my parents time...

we don't go to church, cause we are all not very religious... we have more fun enjoying the time we all have together cause that are really rare moments....

@ Crazy: I think somehow its quite funny, because my Mom wont stop it ... I thought about breaking the bell a few times! But my Mom told me, that she´s got several hidden others, so it wouldn´t work well!
Too bad *lol*
